How Pixaura helped CliqRex grow

THE PROBLEM
Building CliqRex—a platform designed for sharing cross-media recommendations like movies, shows, podcasts, and books—presented a web of complex technical and user-experience challenges. One of the primary hurdles was data fragmentation; unlike single-medium platforms, CliqRex had to integrate and normalize wildly different data structures from various third-party APIs (such as IMDb for movies, Spotify for podcasts, and Goodreads or Google Books for literature) into a cohesive, searchable interface. Additionally, the team faced the "cold start" problem inherent to social recommendation engines. They had to build an algorithm sophisticated enough to map nuanced, cross-genre user tastes without overwhelming early adopters with massive onboarding surveys, all while competing for user attention against established, single-vertical giants like Letterboxd or Goodreads.THE SOLUTION
To overcome the hurdles of data fragmentation, algorithmic complexity, and user onboarding, the digital agency Pixaura stepped in as CliqRex’s technical and design partner. They engineered a cohesive, cross-media infrastructure that could handle multi-vertical searches seamlessly under one roof. To bypass the "cold start" dilemma and make social discovery intuitive, Pixaura helped implement a patent-pending Affinity Engine. Visually represented as an "affinity ring" around a user's profile picture, this engine immediately shows how closely two friends' tastes align across different media. Furthermore, Pixaura integrated "Rex," an AI-driven personal assistant, to handle complex backend recommendation mapping, and introduced a "Karma" gamification system to naturally incentivize early user engagement and data sharing without relying on tedious onboarding surveys.
